Look at your clock and take note of the time or better still, set the timer on your phone to countdown 30 seconds. This is the exact amount of time you are allowed to come up with an answer to the question below: (I highly recommend doing this on paper for maximum impact)
Answer the following question as fast as you can:
“If you could have a perfect day, what would it look like?”
Feel free to comment and correct me if I’m wrong, but my guess is that your paper is either empty or full of crossed out phrases. The purpose of this question is not to test you; rather, it is designed to help you decide whether you have clear goals.
I wish I could look you straight in the eye as I say this: if you cannot articulate the things you want out of life, those very things will continue to pass you by on a daily basis. In this university called Life, you are not allowed to be undecided. Without a clear understanding of where you are going and why you are headed in that direction, life can begin to feel like an irritating rat-race. So sit down for as long as you need to, and invest the time to answer the question: “if you could have the perfect day, what would it look like?”
In the process, you’ll want to answer questions such as:
“what do I fear the least?”
“what is the one thing I want to do before I die?”
“in what ways am I following my parent’s positive and negative footprints?”
You’ll be surprised to find that the answers to these questions will not only help you formulate more precise life goals, but they will also reveal a level of self-understanding that you never knew existed!
Until next time, stay motivated!
