Before I get into this, I just want to clarify that I’m not in any way implying that anyone should measure their value as an individual using any of these metrics.

I’m just saying these are good things to look at when you look at your bank account and the news is not good. Lol

So let’s get into it.

10 Ways to Measure Success in Life

1. Number of followers on social media.

Hear me out on this one.

I’ll use my husband as an example.

My husband is Naija Chef and he just started his blog. He also just started being active on Instagram and within a couple of days, he already has almost 200 followers.

This may not sound like a massive number but, in my mind, this is success because it didn’t take him very long at all.

Not to mention that some of the people following him are kind of a big deal.

2. Number of Countries You Have Traveled to

Personally, this is one that’s very important to me.

I love to travel and have been to almost twenty countries at this point.

It’s kind of crazy; but to me, this is a rock solid way to measure my success in life.

3. How Debt-free Are You?

This is another great measure of success.

You may not have a million dollars in the bank but if your total debt in this entire world is like $100, you are doing ok.

You are doing just fine.

This is another measurement that I really relate to because I have exactly $0 in debt.

4. Number of Awards /Scholarships You’ve Won.

This is one that my sister is really excellent at.

She has won so many awards I can’t even keep track.

So look at how many awards you have won and how many scholarships you have been awarded. These are good ways to measure success other than money.

5. Number of Items Crossed off Your Bucket List

If you have a list of things that you want to do before you die, how many of those things have you done?

Counting things like this is yet another way to measure success in life.

For me, one of the most important things on my list was to be debt-free, which I have achieved.

Another was to publish a book that I could be proud of.

I was also able to achieve that earlier this year.

6. Number of children you have.

Now I have to be honest.

This is not one that I personally relate to; however, a lot of people consider this to be a measure of success. This is especially true for people whose children are doing very well.

7. Number of years you have stayed committed to something tough.

This could be something like your job, a relationship, building your brand, or even building your business.

So for example, if you’ve been at a job that you don’t particularly love; but for some reason, you need to be there, that is a measure of success in and of itself.

8. Length of your hair.

I know a lot of people are out here wanting hair that looks like Naptural85’s hair.

So how many inches have you been able to achieve?

That is a measure of success in life.

9. How is Your Health?

That is, how many pounds or kilograms do you weigh? What’s your BMI? How many months have you gone without having a cold?

These are all quantifiable measures of success that we sometimes take for granted.

Can you imagine how much life would suck if you had a cold all the time?

If you have not caught a cold in six months, that is a measure of success.

10. Number of Bible verses you have memorized.

The things that we put inside of us by reading, listening, smelling, or eating all form the people that we become.

One of my personal favorites is:

I know the plans I have for you. Plans of good and not of evil to give you hope and a future – Jeremiah 29:11

Another one that I love and think about often is:

All things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose – Romans 8:28

So there you go.

  1. Lol at measuring success by hair length. Seriously though, love the memory verse one. I need to do better.

    1. LOL! Couldn’t resist. I definitely need to do better on the memory verses too. It makes such a difference

  2. I lived to read your book!!! It was touching, inspiring, helpful and a lot of fun! Thank you so much!

  3. kola, your posts are always an inspiration and I like the creative ways you share you faith in God (I’m sure I’d send you an email regarding that soon). I consider money a means to the ends I want e.g traveling, acquiring cool gadgets and lovely dresses etc. Personally, achieving ground breaking inventions are a measure of success for me, especially when it’s useful to a large group of people.

    1. Foghor!! I love reading your comments. :D Thank you so much!! oh and i love that addition. Inventing things that are useful to a large group of people is DEFINITELY success. Handsdown
