❼ How to Face a Hectic Schedule with a Calm Mind

It is very rare to come across something that literally transforms your whole life in an instant. And I came across such a thing last weekend.

I had been looking at my to-do list and couldn’t believe how many things I had to do.

how to have a calm mind

  • I had 3 full days of trainings to deliver on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
  • Books to deliver to an awesome customer (hi Mobola! *waves wildly*)
  • 12+ hours of travel to meet with clients
  • This blog post to write.

Etc. etc. You get the picture.

I know many of you are reading this and thinking:
“is that all? you need to see MY to-do list!”

Trust me, I don’t want to see.

Some of you have super powers and I don’t know how you do it.

For me, this was a lot.

So I tried something new to calm my mind…

I opened my laptop and started working on the PowerPoint for my 3 training sessions.

As I aligned things and made charts do magic tricks, I started talking to myself.

Specifically, I said:

“Guess what is happening right now?”
“You are typing on your computer”
“That is literally the only thing that is happening right now”

There and then, my mind went strangely calm.

A few days later, I started to feel stressed about the amount of driving and traveling I had ahead of me. So I used the formula again and said:

“Guess what’s happening right now?”
“You’re pressing a gas pedal and listening to nice music”
“That is literally the only thing that is happening right now”

Again, strange calmness and serenity.

benjamin franklin quote about calmness and serenityI ended up using this formula before each of my training sessions; while writing this blog post; and about a million other times since that first day.

It has worked every time.

If you’re the kind of person that always wants to help others, your schedule is probably always full and your mind on overdrive.

Try this formula.

It works.

“Guess what’s happening right now?”
“You’re reading this sentence on Kola’s blog”
“That is literally the only thing that is happening right now”

Didn’t that feel good?

Do it again — this time, not because I’m encouraging you to try it, but because you really realize how true those statements are.

It’s like magic.

I am officially addicted to this formula and I hope it helps you have a cooler, calmer mind too.

  • How do you keep your mind calm?
  • Have you gotten a massage recently?
  • What’s your week looking like?

P.S: You need to do a post on the life hack of preventing people from wasting your time. My life has been transformed forever!!!

  5. That is such a great tip! It’s a good way to focus on being in the “now” which is something I struggle with and, as a result, end up extra stressed out. Thanks for sharing this, I’m going to try incorporating it!
